Story of the Hands: Chandan Ram Sagar – Casting Legacy in Metal

in May 30, 2025

Meet Chandan Ram Sagar, a skilled Dhokra artist from Bijapur, Bastar, who carries forward a generational legacy of metal casting. He learnt the craft under the guidance of his father—who in turn was taught by his father—making Chandan a proud bearer of centuries-old knowledge passed through hands, not textbooks.

Each piece he creates is more than just art; it is emotion, memory, and identity—cast in bronze. His work reflects not only skill, but the lived experience of a community deeply rooted in nature and tradition.

Through Akkaara’s Baiga collection, we bring to life stories inspired by the Baiga tribe—their full-body tattoo traditions, their reverence for the Mahua tree, and their quiet, profound connection with the forests around them.

At Akkaara, we are honoured to share Chandan’s story through our Story of the Hands series. Share his story to support Chandan and the timeless Dhokra craft—because when we value their hands, we help preserve their history.
